Tipping

Because so many guests have asked us about guidelines for tipping, we have put together some averages for you. Please keep in mind that these are only averages, and tipping should be based on the quality of service you received and is totally up to your discretion. Cash tips may be given directly to staff or placed in envelopes and given to the host for
distribution. Please do not leave cash in the cabins. Tips may also be placed on your invoice at the time of your departure.

Guides - $125-$150 per guest.

Kitchen, housekeeping, and dock staff – There is one dock person, 1 cook, 1 server/housekeeper, and 1 kitchen helper/housekeeper. The average tip is $25-$30 for the cook per guest and $20-$25 per employee for each of the other 3 positions.

Example: Mr. Walleye enjoyed a 5 day package with outstanding service. He tipped his guide $150, the cook $30, and each of the other 3 employees $25 (for a total of $75). His total tips amounted to $255, which, based upon his total trip package of $1820, was approximately 14%.

Example: Mr. Muskie enjoyed a 4 day package with outstanding service. He chose to tip his guide $125, the cook $25, and each of the other 3 employees $20 (for a total of $60). His total tips came to $210 which is 13% of his $1670 package.

If you are tipping as a couple, these example guidelines would be doubled.
